I was probably a birder from birth. I wanted a parrot as pet; a request that was firmly refused by adults at home. This led to experiments of trapping the birds which were found around the house. The birds that got caught were usually pigeons and sparrows. These were released within few hours after adding a pastel colour patch on the wings or belly feathers.
I regret troubling the poor sparrows like this. It is a bird I have come to adore and respect. They are rarely seen around our home nowadays. Their chirping is like music to ears, and I always have an ear out for them.
The rock pigeon family gets just the opposite sentiment. I am proud to have conducted a few experiments by trapping rock pigeons and stealing their eggs. I have swapped eggs of different pigeon nests, added extra eggs to single nest and fed rock pigeon eggs to crows.
These experiments are now in the past. I am a serious birder now and fastidious follower of naturalist's principles. Over the years, I have leaned to identify many birds by sight and by their call. Every vacation ends up as birding vacation and camera cards are filled with photographs of birds.. This blog showcases some of the memorable moments and photographs from my journey as a birder.
